Studio to 5 bedroom apartments offered in one of seven different developments. Serve elderly and disabled; families and individuals. 

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program 

Eligibility Requirements: Family income 50% of area median or less

 Fees: Assisted resident/family pays approxi­mately 30% of adjusted gross income toward rent in private landlord owned housing; federal subsidies assist in paying an amount that var­ies with family size and income.

Hours: 8:00am-4:00pm

Geographic Area Served: City of Schenectady 

Applicant given a housing choice voucher. He/she searches for an apartment or house of choice; landlord must agree to rent to Section 8 recipient and maintain facility to comply with federal building code standards (Housing Quality Standards). Voucher can also be used to assist family in purchasing a home; helps make mortgage payments for first fifteen years.

Fees: None

Hours: 8:30am-4:00pm

Area(s) Served: selected communities in Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, Rensselaer, Fulton and Montgomery counties

The FSS program is a voluntary program for Section 8 recipients that assists with obtaining and maintaining stable employment, prepar­ing for important life issues, creating financial security, and/or preparing for home ownership. Participants have the opportunity to receive a cash grant when increased in earned income cause increases in the participants portion of rent.

The Section 8 Home Program walks partici­pants through the process of purchasing their first home, and offers them the opportunity to use their Section 8 rental vouchers to receive monthly mortgage payment assistance.
