The BETAC is funded by a grant from the New York State Education Department to provide technical assistance at no charge to school districts with Limited English Proficient/English Language Learners in the counties of Albany, Clinton, Columbia, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Lewis, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, St. Lawrence, Warren and Washington. The technical assistance services we provide our constituents include, designing/administering/evaluating inservice training for parents, teachers and administrators, maintaining a Resource Library of bilingual and ESL materials, assisting with educational referral services, translators, consultants, regional agencies) and, developing/facilitating local parent education conferences, activities. Electronically publishing the BETAC Interchange a newsletter to disseminate information on workshops, conferences, activities, materials and resources, and the Rainbow Collection and an anthology of original student work facilitating opportunities for students to participate in the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Leadership Institute.

Since 1966, the EOC has offered tuition-free academic and workforce development opportunities to economically disadvantaged and educationally under-prepared New York State residents 16 years and older. The EOC offers a wide array of vocational programs to enhance employability in today’s competitive job market, including building trades, welding, cosmetology, culinary arts, nursing assistant, and a number of general and medical busi­ness and office technology programs. The EOC also offers a comprehensive array of academic programs ranging from Adult Basic Education though College Preparation includ­ing GED Preparation and English as a Second Language. The wide range of program offering is combined with other unique EOC services including individualized instruction, continuous enrollment, and job placement and post employment support. As a result, thousands of Capital Region residents have acquired the skills necessary to gain employ­ment, to succeed on the job, and to develop self-confidence in their own potential.

It is a union/community collaboration to pre­pare workers to succeed in pursuing advance­ment towards a career in the construction industry. Particularly, the Center wants to evaluate and provide pre skills training to prospective building trades candidates who reside locally in our community. The curriculum will include career counseling, math, reading, multi-perceptional skills, résumé writing, inter­viewing techniques and familiarization with the various trades and requirements of the trades.
